2024 | 14′ Prepared piano, live electronics, live visuals.
This piece comes from the mixture of different ideas. A synthesis technique inspired by Jaap Vink (1930-2023) fed with prepared piano, combined with the visuals brings the audience into an intimate dimension of nostalgia and imagination. Originally it was part of a collaboration with the pianist Miki Kawashima. With her, I worked mostly on the concept: a tribute to the archetype of the computer matched with my memories from the late 90’ and my first computer, recycled from my father that is an IT teacher and programmer. The collaboration continued afterwards with pianist Tibor Szilveszter, who also performed it. Because I wanted to use Windows 95 as a visual element, we also came out with a visual storyline that aims to capture the audience in an intimate and introspective journey. Structurally, the piece starts from descriptive or real sounds, like the noise of the machine and of keys when typing, towards an imaginary trip with detuned synths and dreamy harmonies in a constant crescendo.
A first longer version (14′) was performed on May 26th 2024 at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, and a second shortened version (8′) on March 31st at the Korzo Theater.
